This Wild Sauna moves around the beautiful town of Cromarty on the Black Isle, located on the shores of the Cromarty Firth. This community-run sauna reinvests all profits back into the local community for projects that benefit the area.

Our Wild Sauna Visit

This was our first trip to the town of Cromarty and we were surprised by the buzz it had for somewhere so small. It was a beautifully sunny July afternoon and the good weather had attracted a lot of visitors to the town which has plenty of boutique shops, cafes but still maintains a calm, coastal atmosphere.

Guide to Facilities

Directions & Parking

There is plenty of parking available in the village (even in the busy Summer season) just a short walk from wherever the sauna is currently located.

Changing

There is no changing space, so bring a large towel or dry robe. Storage boxes and hooks are available to store your items.

Host

Our host greeted us warmly and gave us a quick orientation of the space ensuring we had everything we needed. He was on hand to answer questions and maintain a good temperature.

The Hot Bit
This converted horsebox sauna has U-shaped seating on one upper level. The stove sits next to the glass door with views to the Cromarty Firth and beach. There is also a side window for a spot of people watching. A 20 minute sand timer allows you to monitor your session. Several sauna hats are provided. Sessions are 55 minutes and seat up to 6 people.

The Cold Bit

There is a watering can available for a gentle cool down, along with a bench just outside the sauna if you prefer to cool down in a restful way. The other option is of course the refreshing Cromarty Firth which is a short walk over grass to the sandy beach. At the time of our visit the tide was coming in so the walk into the water got shorter each time. Check tide times if this is a concern of yours. Sand shoes are available from the sauna to be used if required although the beach and seabed are sandy not stony or rocky.

Food/Drinks Nearby

No water is supplied here, so remember to bring your own.

Good to Know

The sauna rotates between a couple of locations within the village every month, all of which are positioned right next to the beach.
