Puffin Sauna is situated in the vibrant waterfront district of Leith in the north of Edinburgh. Leith Community Croft is a unique, urban green space that blends community, nature, and wellbeing. Set slightly away from the busy city centre, nestled among food-growing plots, a cafe and park, this wild sauna is easily accessible while still offering a sense of escape.

Our Wild Sauna Visit
Occasionally, Scotland surprises everyone with beautiful weather out of nowhere, and the April Saturday morning we chose to visit Puffin Wild Sauna was one of those rare moments. The sky was a clear, uninterrupted blue, the sun warm enough to feel like a promise of summer. This urban, wood-fired sauna offered us an excellent vantage point for people-watching, with a warm, easy sense of community all around.
Guide to Facilities
Parking
There is free on-street parking at weekends around the links. It is also only a 5 minute walk from several tram stops, either Foot of the Walk or The Shore.
Changing
There is one private changing room with a stool and some hooks. The host explained that there are plans for more changing spaces. Shelves are available for storing belongings.
Host
The host was friendly and relaxed, giving us a brief orientation and staying nearby throughout the session; a simple offering of an orange slice signaled that we had ten minutes left.
The Hot Bit
This cosy, wood-fired wild sauna seats 5 on 2 tiered bench seats within a converted horse box. The large arched window at one end looks out over community-run gardens, trees, and allotments, offering a perfect view of Arthur’s Seat as well as a great spot for people-watching. There is a thermometer inside and a small clock just outside. There are shelves and hooks immediately outside the glass door of the sauna for storing towels or small belongings. Sauna hats are available.
The Cold Bit
There is a cold-water shower, though the pressure is fairly gentle, alongside two barrels of different sizes. There are steps for getting in and out although it still feels a little high. There are also two deckchairs available for sitting out and enjoying a relaxed cool-down.
Food/Drinks Nearby
There is water and cups available. Populus Cafe next door offers good food and home baking, Tues - Sun, or there are plenty of options for most tastes and budgets in and around Leith.
Good to Know
It is possible to have slightly larger numbers for private sessions. There are toilets available at Populus cafe.
