Located at Largs Yacht Haven just outside the popular seaside town of Largs, this wild sauna offers stunning views across the Firth of Clyde toward the island of Great Cumbrae and the Isle of Bute. On Scotland’s west coast, Bide sauna makes an easy and scenic day trip from Glasgow.

Our Wild Sauna Visit

We visited Bide Wild Sauna on a sunny May morning while the marina buzzed with activity during a regatta. It was great fun being right in the middle of it all, watching the boats launch from the warm comfort of the sauna. Perched just above the slipway, Bide sauna offered a perfect viewpoint over the lively waterfront. The Scots word “bide,” meaning to stay, is a fitting name for Bide Wild Sauna: we could definitely bide here all day, enjoying the scenic location, inviting charm and generous hospitality of the host.

Guide to Facilities

Parking

There is ample parking at the Marina, we didn't have any issues even though it was unusually busy at the time of our visit. It is about a 30 minute walk down the coast from Largs train station, past the Pencil Monument.

Changing

There are two spacious changing rooms with a bench and hooks. There are several large storage boxes for keeping belongings.

Host

Our host, one of the owners, had a calm and friendly manner that immediately put us at ease. He was relaxed about end times, which made the whole experience feel unhurried and genuinely restorative. It was clear he truly enjoys running the sauna and wants guests to experience the full benefits of the heat. He also gave us an excellent introduction to the space and facilities, helping us settle in comfortably from the start.

The Hot Bit

This wood-fired wild sauna is built in a traditional barrel shape, with U-shaped bench seating for 10 arranged on a single level. A large arched window at the far end offers a superb view beyond the slipway, across the Firth of Clyde towards the island of Great Cumbrae. Sauna hats are available for guests to use. There is a step beside the stove to be mindful of when exiting. There is no sand timer for keeping track of session lengths, so listen to your body on when you should come and go.

The Cold Bit

There are plenty of ways to balance the heat with cooling off. Outside the sauna are two cold-water showers, a plunge bath, and benches where guests can sit back and enjoy the bustle of the marina. For those who prefer a more natural cold-water experience, two slipways provide easy and safe access into the Firth. We would recommend wearing water shoes or sandals on the concrete for extra comfort.

Food/Drinks Nearby

Bide provide water for refilling bottles. Within the marina complex there are several dining options, Scotts Bar & Restaurant along with the Courtyard Bistro. Largs is a short drive away for more options.

Good to Know

Bide sauna offers a generous membership deal as well as 2 hour sessions for £20 per seat. Other events are detailed on their website.
