One of two nearby Wild Bathing saunas run by 3 sisters, The Snug is located at Ganavan Sands, a stunning white sandy beach just 2 miles north of Oban. With sweeping views across to the Isle of Mull, Morvern, and Lismore, it's an especially scenic spot to unwind. The beach is at the end of the road and is easily accessible by car, bus or on foot from Oban.

Our Wild Sauna Visit
We visited the Snug Wild Sauna on an overcast May bank holiday weekend, hoping for some west coast sea air and warm hospitality, it did not disappoint. I could feel the stress already starting to lift as we drove from busy Oban to the end of the road, arriving at the beautiful Ganavan Sands. Sitting in the aptly named Snug, the view out to the islands creates an instantly calming experience, making it easy to switch off and unwind.
Guide to Facilities
Parking
The Snug Sauna is situated at the end of Ganavan Sands car park, there is plenty space. Parking is free for the first 2 hours with a ticket.
Changing
There is no changing space at the sauna itself although there is a public toilet in the car park. There are several large containers for storing your belongings.
Host
We were welcomed by lovely host Audrey who explained how to make best use of the sauna and space. We needed to fill out a form with our details before entering. She set a timer outside and gave us a 5 minute warning at the end of our session.
The Hot Bit
This wood fired wild sauna has bench seats facing each other with a wide arched window at the end giving spectacular views of the beach, the sea and the islands. The Snug is aptly named, offering an intimate and comfortable setting. With 4 in our session, the space felt pleasantly cosy and well-suited to a relaxed experience. While it accommodates up to 6, this would be more ideal for a close-knit group. This is the first sauna we have visited, to play music. K particularly enjoyed the spa-like playlist. There is an inner door with benches for keeping valuables, phones, water bottles nearby and also for stopping any heat escaping as you come and go and at least one sauna hat available. Inside there is a temperature gauge and sand timer to monitor your session. The wood stove is restocked from outside so our host did not need to come in and out to refuel.
The Cold Bit
There are seats outside the sauna to relax and cool off gently. The other option is the beautiful clear waters of the bay. Consider tide times when booking if you don't want to walk too far. The water is shallow for a long way and crystal clear. Part of the beach and the car park is gravelly so sandals or sand shoes are recommended. The host has extra sand shoes available to borrow.
Food/Drinks Nearby
There is water, hot camomile tea and apples available during or after your session. There are lots of food and drink options at nearby Oban. We would highly recommend the fresh seafood cooked outside near the ferry terminal.
Good to Know
Wild Bathing offers retreats, guided wild swims, seaweed foraging and other experiences on their website.
