Tucked away on the rugged northeastern edge of Scotland in The Broch (Fraserburgh), is The Sauna Hoose. This wood-fired wild sauna offers an experience far removed from the usual tourist trail although only a stones throw away from the award winning Fraserburgh beach. Here, the raw energy of the North Sea meets the quiet heat of the sauna inviting you to slow down, embrace the cold, and immerse yourself in a place where nature feels untamed and deeply authentic.

Our Wild Sauna Visit
We were greeted at the Sauna Hoose with a warm Doric welcome, despite the chilly March morning. Sitting inside, relaxed and comfortable, the sauna is perfectly positioned for people-watching. Through the window, surfers braved the cold North Sea, providing a calm, steady backdrop that made the warmth of the sauna feel even more enjoyable.
Guide to Facilities
Parking
There is plenty of parking all along the beach front, right next to the sauna.
Changing
There are no changing rooms but there are several large storage containers for keeping belonging safe as well as clothes/towel hooks.
Host
Suzanne was such a welcoming host, genuinely wanting us to enjoy every moment of the sauna experience. She gave us space to relax and unwind, while always being on hand to answer questions or offer guidance. She also spoke very highly of other sauna business owners, encouraging us to visit them as well - a generosity we’ve noticed often in the sauna community and really admire.
The Hot Bit
This barrel-shaped wild sauna seats 8 on benches arranged facing each other. There is a large arched window at one end with a view through the caravans to the dunes and shoreline beyond. The host offered us eucalyptus infused water to pour over the stones which created a subtle and relaxing scent. A choice of wet or dry sauna hats are provided.
The Cold Bit
There are many options for cooling off, from enjoying the sea air in one of the 4 garden seats, to a more bracing drench using one of the water buckets. There is also a small shower and of course the always refreshing North Sea. With the tide out and the slipway currently blocked it can be a bit of a trek to get down. The beach is about 200m along the promenade walkway and down some stone steps. Luckily for us the tide was turning so it did get close enough for us to go all the way down to enjoy an invigorating dook.
Food/Drinks Nearby
Bottled and tapped cucumber water is provided as well as fresh orange slices. There is The Beach Cafe a short walk from the sauna at the beach front, while Fraserburgh town centre is also not far.
Good to Know
Keep an eye out for their £5 seat offers!
