Our Wild Sauna Visit

I visited Driftwood with some girlfriends in late summer. We took part in a beginners paddle boarding lesson with the same host first so it was the perfect way to end our active afternoon. We had fun taking turns to cold plunge into the barrel outside. It's a stony beach but that didn't stop us making the run for a North Sea dip too! I've been back several times to this great wee find.

Guide to Facilities

Parking

There is plenty parking at the harbour but be warned, Stonehaven can be packed in summer.

Changing

There is a separate changing room which doubles up as the wetsuit storage for the paddle boarding school (therfore a little damp). Plenty of space to get changed in private though and open locker shelves to store your clothes.

Host

The busy host was welcoming and helpful.

The Hot Bit

Driftwood is a nicely converted horse box with two tiers of seating. Situated at the quiet end of Stonehaven's picturesque harbour, at the pebble beach. The floor to ceiling glass door allows a great view of beach-goers and paddle boarders in the bay. Seats 6.

The Cold Bit

I love a cold plunge and the barrel was fun. Easy to get in and out of thanks to some wee steps both outside and inside the barrel. How can you resist the call of the North Sea though! It's a stony beach and a bit of a walk/run to the water's edge so definitely bring water shoes/sandals.

Food/Drinks Nearby

Lots of options in Stonehaven but if you're there in summer don't miss out on The Seafood Bothy along the harbour wall.
