This thoughtfully organised, seaside wild sauna is set at the very edge of the pretty Fife village of Lower Largo. With an easy slope on to the sands of Lower Largo beach and views over the Firth of Forth, this wild sauna is perfectly placed for those who love the sea air.

Our Wild Sauna Visit

We visited Largo Castaway Sauna late morning on a crisp, sunny February Sunday. With blue skies and a bright (maybe even warm...) sun overhead, we couldn't believe our luck. Sun, sea and sauna; what more could you ask for? This sauna more than delivered on happy vibes, we had the most amazing experience from start to finish and left feeling so great we were scrolling local house prices.

Guide to Facilities

Parking

With the sauna quite literally at the end of the road you park at the Temple car park which is only a couple of minutes walk away. You will find public toilets available here.

Changing

There was ample space for changing with two changing rooms as well as a large covered space behind the sauna itself. Changing rooms had stools, hooks and lights. The covered area had several large storage boxes for keeping belongings in, as well as hooks along the fence.

Host

Our host Evie (the sauna dog) along with her just-as-friendly human Stevie were welcoming and knowledgeable. It was clear that Stevie loves what he does and gets joy from ensuring his customers have a great experience. Halfway through our session, our host added water with essential oils to the stones to create löyly (steam) and using a large fan to distribute the fragranced heat, gave us an unforgettable taster of the German sauna ritual known as Aufguss.

The Hot Bit
The sauna has generous two tiered bench seating for 8 people facing the picture window overlooking the beach to the sea. Sauna hats are available to use and there is an inner door stopping heat escaping as users enter and leave. There is a small entrance area with space to leave water bottles, phones etc. with thoughtful pouches for guests to keep valuables in if needed.

The Cold Bit

There are several options for cooling off; buckets of cold water for showering or pouring over yourself, a large tin bath of cold water to lower into and plenty deckchairs for a more gentle cool off in the sea air. Of course there was no stopping K enjoying the very refreshing cold dook in the sea. If this is your thing too, consider checking tide times - you will have less distance to travel at high tide. The hosts provide spare sand shoes for anyone wanting to enjoy the sea.

Food/Drinks Nearby

Fresh fruit and water was laid out for us to enjoy. Only a 5 minute walk back through the village is dog-friendly cafe The Aurrie which serves up exactly the sort of tasty, filling food you want after a bit of sauna therapy.
