Our Wild Sauna Visit
I visited Sea Biscuit Wild Sauna on a bright, crisp October morning and booked the space for a private session, originally planning to share it with family. As it turned out, I had the session entirely to myself, which was absolutely perfect, a peaceful little escape and a chance to fully unwind at my own pace.

Guide to Facilities
Parking & Directions
Sea Biscuit Wild Sauna is set within the grounds of Calmspace. A single track road leads to farm buildings with a courtyard where you can park. Follow the grassy path towards the yurt and then to the right down to the bottom of the grassy hill where you'll see the sauna.
Changing
There is no dedicated changing space so bring a robe for privacy in a shared session. There are benches to keep your belongings off the ground and small hooks on the outside of the sauna to hang a towel or bag from.
Host
From the moment I arrived, the host was warm, friendly and welcoming, helping me feel at ease straight away. She took the time to show me around the facilities and introduce me to the space, making sure I knew where everything was and how to make the most of my visit.
Halfway through my session, she popped back to check that everything was going well. She returned again towards the end of my booking to let me know my session was coming to a close. The balance of being available and attentive while allowing me the privacy to relax and enjoy the experience felt just right.
The Hot Bit
This barrel-shaped wood-fired sauna has two benches facing each other, there is comfortable seating for around four to six people, making it ideal for a cosy shared sauna experience. Inside, two windows behind the stove look out towards the gardens, bringing in light and connection to the surrounding landscape. There are cushions for your head if you prefer to lie back and fully relax. The sauna is well equipped with everything needed for a comfortable session, including a sand timer and thermometer to keep an eye on time and temperature.
The small porch helps to keep the heat in as people come and go through the glass door. Here you will find extra firewood, a heat-resistant glove for tending the stove, and a bucket and ladle for adding water to the hot stones to create löyly. There is space for water bottles and personal belongings, along with a selection of sauna hats to help regulate body temperature and make longer sessions more comfortable.
There is a range of complimentary extras available, including essential oils to scent the steam, face masks and body scrubs. These little details make the experience feel that bit more indulgent, turning a simple sauna visit into an opportunity to slow down and enjoy some well-deserved self-care.
The Cold Bit
There are several places to sit and allow the fresh countryside air to gradually bring your temperature back down, making it easy to take your time between sessions.
For those looking for a more invigorating contrast, there is also a watering can, a cold shower and a beautiful roll-top bath tucked away amongst the garden planting. With wildflowers floating on the water, this secluded little spot feels like a hidden cold plunge retreat, adding a touch of magic to the experience. Surrounded by the greenery and peaceful Aberdeenshire countryside, it is a wonderfully atmospheric place to pause, cool off and reconnect with nature before heading back into the warmth of the sauna.
