Just outside Kenmore, on the shores of Loch Tay, is the WildEmber Bothy Sauna. This traditional wood-fired sauna sits on the loch’s peaceful north shore, surrounded by the stunning Perthshire countryside and framed by the seven Munros of the Lawers Ridge.

Whether you're looking for a moment of calm, recovery after an adventure, or a deeper connection with nature, WildEmber Bothy Sauna offers the perfect setting to unwind, recharge, and embrace the beauty of the outdoors.

Our Wild Sauna Visit

We visited WildEmber Bothy Sauna on a warm evening over the Summer Solstice weekend. Following a stressful start to our journey, the stunning scenery around Loch Tay and the winding road along the lochside helped ease us into a calmer frame of mind. Tucked away down a short woodland path, the sauna immediately invites you to slow down, relax, and be present in nature. The welcoming atmosphere and thoughtful ethos of the space made an immediate impression. Within no time, we felt our stresses lifting, replaced by a sense of calm and restoration. We left feeling refreshed, grounded, and reconnected with our surroundings.

Guide to Facilities

Parking

There is plenty of parking at the Crannog Centre car park with the sauna being a short walk down a grassy path, look out for the large sauna flag.

Changing

There is a shared changing space in the shelter of a Bell tent, this is more to keep you out of the elements so a dry robe or large towel is still required for privacy. Stools and a clothes rail is available with hangers to place your clothing and you can leave any bags inside. Toilets and an outdoor shower are available at the Crannog Centre.

Host

Dave, along with his beautiful collie Cub, were our hosts for the evening, welcoming us with genuine warmth and enthusiasm. Dave's friendly nature and passion for the space shine through from the moment you arrive. He takes the time to greet each guest, ensuring everyone feels comfortable and at home. It's clear that a great deal of care and thought has gone into creating not just a sauna, but a welcoming sanctuary where people can relax, connect with nature, and leave feeling restored.

The Hot Bit

The wood-fired sauna features two tiers of benches, all facing a large picture window with views through the trees towards Loch Tay. Thoughtful touches, including a sand timer, a basket for the safe keeping of glasses, plenty of sauna hats, and scented waters for adding löyly, enhance the experience. The sauna comfortably seats eight people, creating an intimate and relaxed atmosphere. As our session drew to a close, Dave kindly let us know we had 20 minutes remaining and invited us to stay afterwards to enjoy a refreshing pear and elderflower tea outside.

The Cold Bit

A large steel bath filled with water from Loch Tay sits right outside the sauna, or follow the wee path through the trees to the loch itself. It is surprisingly shallow for quite a distance with a number of rocks underfoot, so bring your water shoes or borrow a pair from the pile of available ones at the sauna. A floating pontoon is out on the water to enjoy. The water is beautifully clear and a refreshing contrast to the heat of the sauna. Framed by the surrounding mountains, Loch Tay is a breathtaking spot to cool off and connect with nature.

Food/Drinks Nearby

There is water and cups available. A warm herbal tea is available after your session. For food, there is a café at the Crannog Centre and a couple of options in Kenmore village which is only a short drive away.

Good to Know
